Music Industry Workshop Series for Teens

This workshop series is designed to introduce teens to three fascinating areas of the music industry.

Radio Broadcasting at WXNA 101.5 FM

Teens will experience a one-day session at WXNA, Nashville's freeform community radio station, where they'll learn the basics of live radio broadcasting. Participants will see behind the scenes of a real radio station.

  • Technical skills: Learn about FCC guidelines, on-air protocols, and using broadcast equipment in a full studio setting.

  • The power of community: Discuss how WXNA impacts and amplifies positive messages in the greater Nashville area, meet real radio DJs and observe them while they are on-air.

Podcasting at We Own This Town Studios

Learn the ins and outs of creating, editing, and promoting a podcast. Participants will gain hands-on experience with recording equipment, editing software, and how to develop engaging content.

  • Technical skills: Basic knowledge about audio engineering, equipment setup, RSS feeds, web hosting, podcast networks and distribution.

  • Industry knowledge: Insights into the music and podcasting industries, the impact and power of podcasting, and the role of cultural influence in non-legacy media.

Discover the art of DJing live on turntables, a format that offers a tactile and creative experience.

  • Music curation: How to select and curate music for different audiences and environments.

  • Technical skills: Hands-on experience with DJ equipment and vinyl techniques.
